Simple And Practical Ways To Be Sincere With Allah (10 min read)
How do you make a pure intention before starting your journey of Qur’ān memorisation? How do you make it exclusively for the sake of Allāh? How do you protect yourself from making it an act of impressing people? How do you stay away from doubts and from having mixed intentions that pull you away from continuing on the path?
These are questions that many of you may ask silently, but never had the courage to ask. These are questions that many of you have asked me and which is why I am speaking about this today. If Allāh wills, with His facilitation, perhaps I can provide you with small steps of guidance.
What Are The Intentions For Memorizing Quran [Hifz] (11 min read)
You should have multiple intentions for memorising the Qur’ān. Voluntary actions can have multiple intentions giving you the reward of multiple actions. The more sincere they are, the more the reward is. The reward for memorizing the Qur’ān alone is huge.
In this article, I will share the role that intention and sincerity play in your memorisation journey and will share multiple intentions that you can have every time you sit to memorise or revise.
Why Are You Memorising The Quran? Whats The Right Mindset? (14 min read)
Why would you memorise the Qur’ān?
The reason is a personal one, all about self-improvement and growth. The why is all about Allāh and your return to Him.
Some of us are clear on our why but others will struggle to find themselves. They see others and want to be part of it. They find sources of inspiration and feel a spark. They may struggle in a battle with the elders – they wanted me to do it but I never wanted it.
Yes, you should personally want it but stick to the Qur’ān, look at shifting your mindset to think more long term and for your own betterment. How do I use what I have of the Qur’ān? How do I improve things with this newfound relationship? If my parents told me to do it, why did they? They want to want benefit too.
The Qur’ān is a living reality. Hifz ul Qur’ān cannot be compared to other forms of memorisation. It’s beyond them. This is why people say there is no point in memorising. How far from the truth!
📖 THE DIARY OF A HĀFIZ
This is where we try to learn by watching others memorise. Today I share a roundup reporting the progress of a brother and a sister in their pursuit of memorising the Qur'ān.
Muhammad, 36, still on Surah an-Nisā’
Background: After forgetting what he memorised (half the Qur'ān) and kept struggling to start again. So he decided to share his diary and mission with us. After 19 weeks of struggle, he finally started. It took him a few months to do a few Juz’. He’s a few months away from having a years diary complete.
What he accomplished last week (1 year, week 4):
“Following going through the 5th juz’, I am now underway again with the 6th Juz’. I had thoughts again that I have been stuck on these for ages now and felt down. But, Alhamdulillāh, I have found some momentum and routine with reciting after maghrib and ‘Isha. There are so many benefits to dividing out your readings. I do revision of a juz’ and then memorise the new and recent portions in another session.”
Umm Zayd, a mother
Background: Umm Zayd is 28, a mother to a 11 month old. She started memorising after the birth of her son and until now she has had no schedule. She would consolidate and recite to her aunt whenever her child allowed her the time but now she has made the intention to memorise a page of the Qur’ān daily, in shā’ Allāh and recite her lessons once a week for correction.
Where is she now? Alhamdulillāh, she has completed Juz’ 30, Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al e Imran. She reviews both surahs daily but I does not review the 30th as it's solidified. She decided to start Surah an-Nisā’ on October 1st, doing one side daily in shā’ Allāh and as revision she will alternate between Surah al-Baqarah and Al e Imran.
Week 1:
“Last month, on 24th September I had memorized Surah Al e Imran but there were gaps in my memorization. So I took a break and revised Surah Baqarah and Al e Imran daily. Now I restarted my memorization with Surah Nisa and did verse 1-6. I memorize in the night and sleep and try to actively recall the verses during the day and do it in a spaced manner. This method seems to work best for me. As for my revision, I do Surah Baqarah on odd days of the month and Surah Al e Imran on even days and revise the current Surah that I am doing daily. Hope to keep the momentum going!”

⚒️ MOTIVATION, TIPS & TOOLS
Motivation
Witness Abdul Kareem. He cannot speak a single word to anyone no matter how hard he tries, but if you ask him to recite the Qur'ān, he does so from memory!
He has memorised the entire Qur'ān!
Doctors so far cannot diagnose his condition, he lost his speech and hearing after an accident. Not only that but he also lost his parents and 7 siblings. Abdul Kareem and three other family members survived.
He saw an old man in his dream wearing a white robe and had a white beard. He accompanied him and they walked together in the street, and he said to Abdul Kareem: “Do not be sad that you do not speak, and be eager to recite the Qur’an. You will be rewarded for it and Allāh will compensate you!”
He can only recite the Qur'ān! Nothing else!
