How To Stop Procrastinating With Your Hifz (11 min read)
Over the past year, we’ve followed at least 7 different Hifz diaries on a weekly basis. One of the most common challenges we’ve seen is procrastination. A subject that is widely discussed and typically sits right at the top of our goals list.
Let’s face the facts.
We’ve all procrastinated with something in our lives. We all delay and avoid issues that matter to us. We avoid conversations with people. We use delay tactics. Yet, when we feel good and productive, we forget procrastination exists, and we feel accomplished.
Procrastination can be curse or a blessing (when used rightly). For the most part, it’s rarely a blessing. Procrastination only compounds. The more it compounds, the more it becomes a problem.
So how to stop procrastinating?
Procrastinators: Memorise Quran Page in 30 minutes! (3 min read)
Being a busy mother of small children and a home educator I can’t always afford to wait for the perfect time to memorise and most of the time once its gone, it doesn’t come back until maybe the following day. The last thing you want is to end another day feeling sad because you havent met all your targets.
It’s essential that we have a plan B to get ourselves out of this predicament of perfectionists procrastination and here is what works for me
Break These Habits Now to Unleash Your Best Self (6 min read)
Memorising the Qur’ān is a noble and fulfilling endeavour. But, along this journey, we may unknowingly adopt habits that hinder our progress. So I want to mention some essential habits to break to become your best self as you memorise the Qur’ān.
📖 THE DIARY OF A HĀFIZ
This is where we try to learn by watching others memorise. Today I share a roundup reporting the progress of a brother and a sister in their pursuit of memorising the Qur'ān.
Muhammad, 36, still on Surah an-Nisā’
Background: After forgetting what he memorised (half the Qur'ān) and kept struggling to start again. So he decided to share his diary and mission with us. After 19 weeks of struggle, he finally started. It took him a few months to do a few Juz’. He’s a few months away from having a years diary complete.
What he accomplished last week (1 year, week 7):
“I have complete just over 3/4 of the 6th juz’ now. I am also revising consistently with a Juz’ a day. I’ve been a bit lazy with some days where I’ve simply read by looking. There are still so many weaknesses. I’ve slowed down, changed things up a lot, and I know it keeps happening but make du’a guys that I find stability and success!”
Umm Zayd, a mother
Background: Umm Zayd is 28, a mother to a 11 month old. She started memorising after the birth of her son and until now she has had no schedule. She would consolidate and recite to her aunt whenever her child allowed her the time but now she has made the intention to memorise a page of the Qur’ān daily, in shā’ Allāh and recite her lessons once a week for correction.
Where is she now? Alhamdulillāh, she has completed Juz’ 30, Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al e Imran. She reviews both surahs daily but I does not review the 30th as it's solidified. She decided to start Surah an-Nisā’ on October 1st, doing one side daily in shā’ Allāh and as revision she will alternate between Surah al-Baqarah and Al e Imran.
Week 4:
“I am unable to stick to one page a day, as far as I know myself, I am a motivated and disciplined person Alhamduli’lah but with my 1 year old I have way too many unprecedented factors to take care of. Sometimes it's an easy day sometimes the roof is down. So my memorization is getting inconsistent. I would like to change my daily goal to half a page. As for the past week this was my progress: Alhumdulilah I memorized pages 87,88,89,90 of Surah Nisa. It was a little difficult to do it daily hence I again missed a few days. Revision was on schedule Alhumdulilah. ”

The Secret To Not Lose Motivation While Doing Hifz.
We have all been there. When we start hifz, we are very hyped up and have this burst of energy and positivity and we think that, we will never lose the motivation we have and will always work hard and finish fast. But, what happens along the way? Like everything we do in life, if we overwork ourselves, we lose motivation. Even for hifz this happens indeed and it's very normal. Of course, not when we start but after couple months and after we finish some Juz.
How do you not lose that motivation? Anything we do in life, whether it's work, studies and what not, we should never overwork and stress ourselves. The more you do something, and go overboard with it, which is unhealthy, you will lose motivation very fast and you will simply get bored.
Same with the Quran. If your working recklessly day and night, then a day will come that you will be like "ahhh forget It." And the very next day it will be the same, and slowly, slowly you'll forget everything. The secret is, whatever we do in life, we must be very consistent at it. Consistency is key. Rather than spending all day doing the Quran, have a time set in place of how many hours you will do everyday. And do it consistently. Being consistent in something, will not make you overworked and thus will not make you lose motivation. If you were to go all out and spend day and night overworking yourself, you will give up very fast. And you must remember, satan is always wanting to make you give up. You have to fight him.
Lastly, whenever you feel down you must remember, Out of the many millions of Muslims, Allah has chosen YOU. Yes, YOU. You are the chosen one. Allah doesn't grant the blessing for every Muslim to memorize his Holy Book. He only chooses the Chosen ones and he chose YOU. You are very elite and VIP in the eyes of Allah. Doing Hifz is not easy at all, indeed. But the satisfaction it gives you, and the status you have in the eyes of Allah, makes it all worth it.
You may not see the benefits of it in this world, but when you are in your grave, and on the Day of Qiyamah, this blessed book, that is in your heart, will intercede for you, and make you amonst the people of Jannah. Remember, Allah grants this blessed opportunity to only the chosen ones. Not everyone. Remember this. You are very unique. You are the chosen one.
